Witcher News! Happy Birthday to me!

I sat down at my computer wondering what I would blog about, but a couple seconds on the book of faces made my mind up for me. Straight to the point, Netflix and CD Projekt Red are presenting a streaming convention for The Witcher! Like many, I’ve been enamored with the series in recent years, and the property is thankfully expanding its spidery Harrisi legs out into more media!

When is Witchercon?

The convention, titled Witchercon, is taking place on MY BIRTHDAY and it’s perfect. On July 9th, 2021, the convention will air two streams, one at noon and one at 8pm (don’t ask me the time zone, as the site doesn’t specify.)

I finished the first Witcher book this year, and I’ve been in and out of Witcher 3: Wild Hunt for the last four years, but the convention likely means an announcement of a new game and a trailer for season 2 of the show. There’s a lot to be excited about.

Is CD Projekt Red Announcing a New Witcher Game?

It has been a while since Witcher 3 came out, so a new game would make perfect sense, but there’s a chance CDPR is there to announce something a little less than Witcher 4. Maybe it’s a mobile game, maybe it’s an expansion or change to Gwent, or maybe a spinoff of some kind. Just under a month from now we will find out though! After the disappointing launch of Cyberpunk 2077, it would make a lot of sense for CDPR to make as big of news as possible with an announcement of a sequel to the main series. I’m hoping for Witcher 4 obviously.

Netflix’s The Witcher Season 2 Trailer Incoming?

I can’t see a reason to hold a Witchercon and not show a trailer. We know filming wrapped already, so it should be soon. Black-Suit Superman in Zack Snyder’s Justice League has me itching to see more Henry Cavill, and his Geralt performance is great regardless. Sometimes second seasons of Netflix original shows are disappointing, but I think they should have some good guidance if they stay about as close to the source material as they did with the first season.

If you haven’t read The Last Wish, season 1 wasn’t incredibly faithful to the book, but it wasn’t that far off either. If you haven’t watched the series, know that it’s closer to the book than the game, and far earlier in time than Witcher 3.

I’ll tackle more news on Witcher announcements as they come out. It’s a fun series, regardless of whether that means games, shows, or books. You can check out my book too, if you’ll excuse my shameless plug!
