What’s the Last Book you Bought?

Sure, people don’t buy books as often as they used to, but there’s still plenty being sold. Brick-and-mortar stores might not be as big of a draw as they used to be, but I doubt they will go away anytime soon. The last book I bought was actually a comic, or a couple of comics from my local comics shop. Local authors ought to support other local authors!

I Miss Bookstores

While trying to find stores that might be willing to carry Withered Kingdom I discovered that there aren’t any traditional bookstores in the city I live in. Growing up not too far from where I am now, there were and still are several, so it came as a shock. While many big chains may be gone, I know there are still enough people buying books. This made me wonder, do people who buy books primarily buy them online nowadays?

Buying Books on the Internet

I have done more than my fair share of book shopping online, but it’s nothing compared to walking through the shelves of a bookstore. You can’t replicate the smell, the hush, the comfort of a bookstore. As easy as it is to open Amazon or other shopping apps, it always feels like something’s missing. Not to mention used books could be marked “Used-like new” and come out of the package soaked because carriers can get careless. Not to mention creased spines, missing pages, excessive dog-earing (that you didn’t earn yourself!) and strange notes written in the margins.

Will Bookstores Make a Comeback?

With the rise of physical media for nostalgia’s sake in recent years (like buying vinyl records instead of CD’s or even digital) I can see bookstores revitalizing. Boxed collections and fancy hardcover editions of classics are already rather popular at places like Costco and Sam’s Club. Not only that, but it’s getting easier and easier for people to publish books themselves with services like Kindle Direct Publishing, so the need for bookstores may rise soon, if it isn’t already rising.

Please Support me by buying Withered Kingdom

My latest novel, Withered Kingdom is a fantasy story about a man waking up on war-torn world having forgotten everything. He befriends a half-giant and struggles to survive as he pieces together where he came from, and why. Does he have the strength, hope, and endurance to accept his destiny? To find out, buy Withered Kingdom on Amazon or Kindle, today!
