It’s not every day you get to go to the theater and watch a new Batman movie. I felt that electricity again for the first time since Batman v Superman in 2016. (I don’t consider Justice League since his name isn’t in the title.) Was the anticipation, hype, and pondering about Robert Pattinson’s career worth it? No Spoilers!
Is The Batman Good?
For the first time in a long time, I walked out of a DC movie in a theater, confident everyone else enjoyed the movie as much as I did. Batman movies are usually like that. I have enjoyed more of DC’s recent offerings than most, but I doubt anyone left The Batman disappointed.
It’s pure, real, true Batman. The world’s greatest detective was focused on his detective work. He hit hard. He was intimidating. He was believably scary when he needed to be, and inspiring at other times. The dark, conflicted hero felt almost exactly like he did in The Dark Knight or Batman Begins. With Riddler and Penguin as villains, it felt like Christopher Nolan was back in the director’s chair.
How Does The Batman Rate?
I will do a full review of the movie soon, but for now, just based on initial reactions, this has to be one of the best Batman movies ever, One of the best DC movies ever, and one of the best comic book movies of the decade. I’m not going to call it the BEST of any of those categories, but it deserves “ONE OF” as a modifier.
As great as Robert Pattinson is in the role though, I’m still going to say Ben Affleck is the best Bruce Wayne/Batman actor. Sorry, no other Batman movie scene beats BvS’ warehouse scene… but one scene in this new movie gets close.
