The way people experience books is constantly changing. As technology evolves, it seems like more and more people are taking the audiobook route. And I get it. Audiobooks are hands-free, make great background noise when you’re doing other things, and sometimes the draw can even be the reader. What do you think?
Audible from Amazon
The king of audiobooks is undoubtedly Audible. Amazon already controls so much of modern life with Alexa, shopping, prime music, video streaming and… honestly I don’t even want to count how many things brought to us daily by Amazon. Even if there are some alternatives to Audible, it’s not like they’re anywhere near the level of ubiquity of Audible today.
I’ve been using Audible for almost a year now, and it just feels like a natural part of life now. I have a car that connects to my phone’s bluetooth, and I have bluetooth speakers, and a variety of headphones, so there’s almost no limit to when and where I can listen. Long car rides and commutes are much more bearable when you have an audiobook to listen to.

Favorite Audible Listens
My favorite experience with Audible so far has been listening to the Audible version of Bram Stoker’s Dracula. With voice talent like Tim Curry, Allen Cumming, Simon Vance, and half a dozen more, it has to be one of the best ways to experience the classic vampire tale.
On the other end of the spectrum (but still a positive), I listened to Soon I will be Invincible by Austin Grossman, narrated by Coleen Marlo and Paul Boehmer. That’s a book I had heard of in college, so when I encountered it on the audible store, I gave it a shot. There may only be two readers that I don’t recognize them from anywhere, but it was the right choice for the book.
While I haven’t finished it, I am slowly going through Dune by Frank Herbert (another big cast audiobook version) after having so much fun watching the recent movie adaptation. I’m still not sure I am that big of a fan of it, because I get particular about pronunciation, but it might be a more accessible way for other people to enjoy this LONG book before Dune, Part 2 hits theaters in the next year or so.
