Quick Thoughts: Twitch Streaming

I made my first attempt at streaming on Twitch back on Sunday afternoon. It was something I had considered for a long time, because, frankly, Twitch is built around streaming, so its streaming tools are far more sophisticated than Facebook’s. My stream was a “Nate Reads the Classics,” wherein I started The Time Machine by H.G. Wells. Read on—

Twitch Streaming is Great! Except…

Twitch streaming was a completely different experience than my normal Facebook streaming experience. Having scenes and some ability to adjust the brightness and color balance of my camera was useful. That, and it was easier to access data and see when viewers came and went. But there was a downside.

Although I have Twitch Prime (which grants me the ability to save my videos for later), I did not activate the setting to record and store my video. I understand that Twitch is a huge part of the internet now and thousands of people are streaming at any given second around the world, but I assumed too much. It even had me select my file path for saving before the stream started, but it didn’t save it? I can’t find the video anywhere.

Nate Reads the Classics: The Time Machine

In the future, I will probably switch over to Twitch streaming for most of my live videos. The tools are so much better, and I actually got more viewers that way than I usually do on Facebook despite how many friends I have. I got to reach out to totally random viewers, which was nice. As long as I get to save and reupload my videos in the future, I will do that for my “Nate Reads the Classics” series. I may even have a better computer setup in the future that makes it easier, allowing me to stream more often.
