Happy 2’s Day!

This’ll be a short post, but here goes! Happy 2’s day! It’s February 2nd, 2022, which has to be the most 2’s in the date in my or all of our lifetimes. It’s also George Washington’s birthday. He would be… really old if he was still alive.

Important Day for Publishing

Did you know that Galileo published “Dialogue Concerning the Two Chief World Systems” 390 years ago today? You might not know the book, but you probably know about the effects of it being published. This book compared the old-fashioned system of believing that everything revolved around the earth to the newer, controversial system of believing what we know to be more correct today.

While the book deal with other scientific topics as well, that’s the big one to focus on, almost 400 years later. The earth has changed a lot in that time, and many of those changes wouldn’t be possible if Galileo didn’t have the courage to challenge the system. Makes you wonder who is writing books today that would be forbidden/banned like Two Chief World Systems was?

Banned Fantasy Books

Fantasy as a genre is no stranger to banning. Almost all of the most famous ones were banned at one point or another. Here’s a quick list:

Yeah, some of those are more Science Fiction, a lot of the research I was doing was pointing me a fantasy series I had never heard of. Of this list, the only ones I have completed are the Harry Potter series, Fahrenheit 451 and Neverwhere. I have read the beginning of Interview with a Vampire and Fellowship of the Ring, but I’m making sluggish progress through The Two Towers.
